FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oakland,
CA
– August 03, 2011, Cocoyea Music LLC,
announces the brand new, mid-summer release “WATERHOLE” by Akinde (of
Kindred
fame). This new release is the first single since the all digital
Akinde EP was
released in October 2010 on the Cocoyea label.
Akinde’s years of experience in performing and recording
have brought him to
the attention of fans of California,
particularly the Bay Area ever since his former group Kindred performed
to a
sellout crowd at Reggae on the River. His diverse blend of musical
genres,
participation at workshops and overall performances has helped open
doors to all
levels of attendees, from the vast ethnic diaspora of San Francisco, to
the poetry/
spoken word couture of Berkelee, and onto the robust rap/ hip hop
streets of
downtown Oakland, all have begun to capture a greater understanding of
the unique
culture of Trinidad & Tobago.
The new release, “WATERHOLE” delightfully bridges the
gap between generations.
This clever track puts a new angle on the possibilities of merging
cultures, using
an infectious beat and catchy hooks infused with a very modern spin on
the
traditional “double entendre style” lovingly found in traditional
calypso. WATERHOLE
is jam packed with influences of dance music, hip hop, rapso and
musical engine
room elements. The track starts with the analogy of the club and slowly
weaves
its way into the mind with pure wit. What
is the “WATERHOLE?”... “The track is primal but smart, sexy
but by no means
smutty. Its creative sense for the 21st
century”, says Sharon
Humphrey of Cocoyea Music.

Akinde has participated in
VH-1’s World Stage in California
and BET’s tri-borough HIV Awareness Tour in New York.
Akinde has also
been involved in home based entrepreneurial and personal development
efforts
which he believes will prove vastly essential on his reaffirmed
commitment to
play his part in raising the flag of Trinidad & Tobago on a
global level.
